Best Used Cars for 2023

When you’re shopping around for a new-to-you car, it can be overwhelming to make a decision. There’s plenty of options, but a lot of questions you need to ask, such as cost, how many kilometres does it have, how many kilometres to the litre does it get, and on it goes.

A used car is a less expensive alternative to a brand new one, and can be a better option for a lot of folks. Wondering what the best used cars to buy in Canada are? Read on to see a few of our favourites!

Sweet SUV

It seems like everyone is in the market for at least a crossover SUV, if not a full sized one. If you’re looking for something a bit bigger than a car, but not as oversized as a truck, then crossovers like the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4 are for you.

Bear in mind, you’ll likely have to decide on a model with more features or a model with less mileage, but no matter what you pick, you’ll find a solid, reliable vehicle that will carry you for years to come.

Best For Families

If you’ve got a lot of kids to tote around, you’ll need enough room for everyone and all their stuff to fit. The Dodge Grand Caravan is still among the best of the best when it comes to minivans, and they’re pretty widely available on the used market.

The Caravan is known for its stow-n-go seating, seats that fold up and away to make more room when you need it, so it’s not just for carpooling everyone to soccer practice.

Ready to Work

When you need a truck, you need a truck.  The Ford F150 is the most popular truck in North America for a reason, and there’s plenty of others for picking up a used model. These trucks are reliable, whether you’re a tradesperson or a weekend warrior, if you need something hauled, it can get the job done.

If you’re not planning on doing a lot of hauling, but still like the idea of a truck, the Honda Ridgeline can be a great truck with a decent price if you’re willing to with an older model.

Compact Cruising

Smaller cars like sedans often have better fuel economy than a larger vehicle, and they can fit better into smaller parking spots. The Honda Civic has been among the best ratings even ten years later, which makes them incredibly reliable. Even if the odometer is reading in the six-digit range, if the car has been well-maintained it will have plenty of life left.

Another good bet in this category is the Toyota Corolla. Another brand known for its reliability, you’ll find this car for a reasonable price on the used market and know it’ll still keep going likely for years to come.

Electric Avenue

If you’re considering making the jump to an electric vehicle, some of the earliest models are starting to appear in used vehicle listings. The Nissan Leaf is a fully electric vehicle that’s being listed around the $10K mark, if you’re considering making the switch. It likely won’t have the range the newer models have, but it’s a good ripping around town car.

If you’re not quite ready to go full electric, the Chevrolet Volt is a hybrid that appears under $10K and can give you a taste of the electric life.
